Caffeine Drinks Banned in Schools

Dudley, MA (WBZ Newsroom) -- The Boston Globe reports today that more and more school districts in Massachusetts are saying no to high energy drinks . In June the Dudley-Charleton school district banned the drinks in the middle school and at school sponsored activities.

Now the King Phillip regional school district has rewritten its student handbook discouraging the consumption of the so-called high octane drinks. King Phillip's decision stems from an incident last winter when a student became sick after drinking several cans of an energy drink on a school trip.

And in Dudley Charlton officials said middle school students were bouncing of the walls because of energy drinks and crashing later in the morning. the drinks contain lots caffeine, sugar and other stimulants.
